The miniMadMOD60s Research Project

A core group of independent researchers, about two dozen
people from all over the world, has worked for three years to
    assemble these marvelous collections.

Headed by Linda Morand, herself a top Sixties model, they have
assembled extensive and orderly archives of about 450 models
who were internationally renowned in the modeling and fashion
industries.  Baby Boomers delight in seeing the iconic images
that helped develop their tastes and dreams.

Modern editors at Vogue Paris and Vogue Italia communicate
with each other, and us using the site to harvest their own
archives and identify the models. So many of their issues have
not been scanned.  We have been providing that service for
them.  We do not sell the images or engage in any commercial
    activities.

Many people have written how much they appreciate this
clearinghouse for everything Sixties Fashion. Some are receiving
inquires for new bookings.  One of our most prolific contributors,
Willy van Rooy, was recently rediscovered by Italian Vogue and
was booked for a 10 page spread in the Oct 2008 Italian Vogue.

We  plan auction off donations by the models, autographed
copies of magazines, donated jewelry, paper dolls and limited
editions of original art inspired by the Sixties Models. The
proceeds will go to the AFMF and to maintain the website.

These models were our friends, our peers, our inspiration and
our muses in that grand adventure, modeling in the Sixties. Even
many of the models who had dozens of covers and were the
toast of two continents in the Sixties have been mostly forgotten
and unheard of by current generations.

We want to see their work enjoyed and honored as it once
was and assure that historical accuracy is maintained. People
love to have a little information on the models.  The pictures are
wonderful, but the human interest stories are fascinating, both
for us models and the members.

We thank the models who have granted us interviews and
shared their stories with us, as well as the models who have
added comments to our message boards. Many models contact
us through family members.  All of them are happy with the site
and what it has done to renew interest in and respect for the
Sixties Models and the Creative Talent around them..

Some of the models who's stories are featured on this website
are the ones who have contacted us or responded to contact by
us. Their support is lending historical credibility and wealth of
knowledge to out data base. We protect their privacy.    We like
to feature models that fans and  group members bring to our
    attention by asking questions.

Our goal is to have more information on all the models. We
would like to see more inquires about models and answers.  This
is the only way the information will get into the data base. All
this is done out of love for the body of work.

Thank you all models and members for your contributions
    Mission

    .

Mission:  To Piece together the Fashion and
Modeling World of the Mod Sixties.

We are engaged in the daunting task of archiving the
fashion, beauty and commercial images of the top fashion
models of the Sixties. We are endeavouring to preserve an era
that some of us have been privileged to witness This chronicle
reflects the lifestyle and the cutting edge trends in New York
and the rest of the USA, as well as emerging trends in Paris,
London and Milan.  Our library of images covers the Malt Shop
Era of the Fifties through the Swinging Sixties, as the Baby
    Boomers were growing up.

There was no Internet in the 60s so many of these images
    have been
lost.  This very informal international group is growing by one or
two members a day. Some are BabyBoomers who were part of
the industry, others are young people who appreciate the
    heritage. .

We rely on these members for donations of recently scanned
    photos,
articles and personal recollections from members to form this
archive. This is  done through pictures, scanned and posted by
members all over the world, friends and family, and the models
    themselves.

A core group of  very dedicated members works hard to find,
scan, post and identify over 400 international cover-girls and
editorial models. The archive has attracted quite a few of the
former top models themselves, who gather here to enjoy each
others work again and from time to time, make comments,
    which
    thrills us all.

The site started out as a sort of fan site, but soon developed
into a dynamic, ever-growing archive, assembled by many
    people
who lived and participated in the events pictured here.
    Modern
graphic artists turn to us for inspiration, and our kids think
    we
    are pretty cool after all.

With this, archive having become much larger in scope than
we had ever planned, we now are attempting to identify the
photographers, editors, stylists and designers who helped to
make the images. We would love some editorial help.

    Message From Angora Fedora:

Manager of The First Colleen Corby Fan Community

I'm so glad this history is being recorded by so many who are
gracious enough to participate together here at
miniMadMOD60's....all brought together by their biggest and
most loving fan of all, Linda Morand!

Her sincere warmth and concern for all of the models is hard to
miss. Clearly, she has a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of
affection and solicitude towards them all. Theirs is a club apart,
and Linda reminds me of the big sister: a protective tigress who
has a tender fealty towards all of the models.

I find it humbling to be even the teeniest part of this event
through the sharing of pictures I've gather and the montages I
love doing. I'm delighted that you enjoy the montages. Thanks
    for saying so.

These models remind us of ...are metaphors for...are
representations of something or of someone significant to
ourselves. Icon is from the Greek word "eikon" which means
image. To me this website is  beyond being about pretty people
or celebrity sorts. This site is important because it represent a
key historical period, and closer to home, it  represents many
different things in the lives of each one of us personally.

For instance, when I see Colleen Corby, I think  of times, places
and events in my own experiences that shaped my life; these
memories form (to quote the cotton people lol) the fabric of our
lives. These times, places and events are a part of who we are.
Colleen along with the other models are like starter dough,
inspiring us to remember, cherish, & embrace various time
periods that form the warp and woof of our own lives.

In that sense, it's not about Colleen or the other models at all.
It's about certain time periods & many of our own personal
notions, experiences, and memories the models inadvertently
    represent.

But of course, it is also about all of these wonderful people who,
as models, are gifted chameleons and marvelous hard working
actors, among other things. It is fascinating to witness their
reliving of the classic moments.  Their comments bring clarity to
    the images.

We are all on a journey. These talented models and sometimes
muses have charted intriguing waters. I love to hear their tales.
Moreover, I always appreciate their brilliant variety of looks.

I happen to believe that the sixties models are the most
beautiful, refreshing and inspiring lot in the history of modeling.

I wonder if they comprehend their significant place in history.
